First-Year Civil Engineering students had the opportunity to visit the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project and Polavaram Irrigation Project as part of an industrial visit aimed at enhancing their practical understanding of large-scale infrastructure projects. During the morning session, students visited the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, where they observed the operation of high-capacity 6300 HP pumps used to lift water to the Polavaram right main canal.
In the afternoon session, they explored the Polavaram Irrigation Project, witnessing its various construction stages. They visited the 960 MW hydroelectric power plant (currently under construction), observed the large radial hydraulic gates, spillway, spill channel, and pilot channel spanning across 6 km, and understood the critical role of this multipurpose project. The students were highly excited and actively engaged throughout the visit. They enthusiastically interacted with the Assistant Executive Engineers of the Polavaram Project, gaining deeper insights into the project’s technical aspects, execution challenges, and future impact. This hands-on exposure greatly enriched their understanding of the basics of hydraulic structures and water resource management.
