Vishnu Institute of Technology celebrated the National Library Week from 14th to 20th November, 2014. The celebrations can be traced to a practice initiated by Shri I.V.Ramayya, recognized as the "Architect of Public Library Movement in India". He organized an all India Library meeting on November 14, 1912 in Madras which led to the formation of Indian Library Association (ILA). Later ILA declared November 14 as the National Library Day. Since 1968, 14th to 20th November is being celebrated as the National Library Week all over India and various programs are held to enhance public awareness about libraries.
Keeping in tune with this tradition, Vishnu Institute of Technology celebrated the National Library Week drawing the attention of several students. Literary events like Collage, Reverse Reading, Quiz, Poster Presentation and Book Reading Competition were held. Students from across disciplines participated with zeal and enthusiasm. The program ended with a grand finale. Dr. A. Narasimha Raju, himself, an eminent librarian and a good academician graced the valedictory function. Prizes were given away to the toppers of the events.
On this occasion a book exhibition was organized on 17th and 18th November by Higginbothams Private Ltd in the Library where books of various genes were on display. Shri Vishnu Educational Society is one of the very few educational centers that encourage book reading habit among the students through such initiatives like establishing a bookstore of Higginbothams in the campus and conducting such events.
