Industrial Visit of B.Tech II & III EEE Students

II B.Tech EEE Branch

Department of Electrical Engineering has organized an industrial visit at Kamavarapukota 400kV Substation for 2nd year students. 90 students along with 5 faculty members visited the substation on 9/3/2019. The main objective of this visit is to make our students familiar with the operation and functions of various substation equipments. The team of Engineer received us at the entrance and showed their premises by giving a brief introduction about the substation. We were divided into two groups of students each group was led by TRANSCO officials. They saw different parts of the substation like lightning arrester, Transformer, Isolator, Circuit Breaker etc. Students had a great interactive session of their doubts with working engineers during the visit. The visit came to end by an interactive session conducted by Transco members Mr. G.Srininvasarao, A.E. and Mr. P.Srinivasarao, A.E for solving the doubts raised by the students.

III B.Tech EEE Branch

B.Tech Third Year Students of Electrical Engineering went for an Industrial visit to Dr.Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Plant (Apgenco) in Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada on 16th February, 2019. Dr.Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Vijayawada Thermal Power Station) complex consists of four stages.TPS Stage-I, II, III & IV has Installed capacity is 1860.0 MW (6x210 MW+ 1 x 600MW). During the visit the students observed various processing units such as Coal Handling Station, Boilers, conservator, Economizer, Dust Collectors and Bag Filters, Air Preheaters, turbine unit, Generator with Exciter and control Board Room.

The power plant is categorized into 4 houses based on its functioning. At first they visited coal storage and coal handling station. In the second stage they visited coal pulverization equipment. The third stage consists of a set of three parts, each containing a low pressure, high pressure turbines coupled with an alternator and each has generating capacity of 210 MW. In the final stage they visited the cooling towers. At Last they visited the Unit control Board Room where the whole process is monitored by control board members and at the time of emergency they will inform the authorities concern.

A total of 45 students visited the above industry, accompanied by the Department faculties- Mr.P.Naveen, Mr.Ch.PhaniKumar and Mr.G.Jayaprasad.
