Industrial Visit of II B.Tech Mechanical Students

B.Tech Second Year (2013-17 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to Nidadavole, West Godavari (Dist), Andhra Pradesh, during 13-14 February 2015. The students visited two industries - Nandina Iron & Steels Limited and Photons Food Processing Engineers.
Nandina Iron & Steel Limited is a foundry and deals with casting of industrial valves, alloy steel valves and supplies them to Vizag Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam. The students observed various sections such as pattern making section, preparing of moulding sand, cope & drag preparation, metal pouring, fettling section and finally the machining section where required surface finish for the components is obtained. The students were fortunate to have a view at machines such as heavy-duty lathes, planer and shaper.
On 14th February, the students visited Photons Food Processing Engineers, which designs and manufactures various food processing equipments used in modern rice mills and fish processing plants. The students got an opportunity to understand the working of a shearing machine, bending machine and various welding processes. Fabrication of equipments is done with Mild Steel and Stainless Steel sheets of varying thicknesses. Welding techniques such as arc welding, plasma welding, metal inert-gas (MIG) welding and oxy-fuel welding are used for joining these sheets.A total of 70 students visited the above companies accompanied by the department faculties Dr.N.Naga Krishna, Mr.P.Srinivas, Mr.M.Vinod and Mr.K. Srinivasa Raju. The visit to these companies gave an overview to the students about the casting and welding processes, which they study in their current semester. The students sincerely thank Sri N. Rama Krishna, Managing Director of Nandina Iron & Steels Limited, for according permission to visit the industry. Special mention to Sri S.M.Ravindran, Managing Partner of Photons Food Processing Engineers for sharing his valuable knowledge, experience and for enlightening the students about the fabrication processes.
