Mechanical Engineering students participated in National Level Student Convention (2023-2024) Tier-III events held at Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai during 15-16 March 2024, organized by SAE-INDIA Southern Section. Three teams from our College participated in Technical Paper Presentation, Internet of Things, and Bridge Building events and competed with 30 engineering colleges across India. Our students secured Third Prize in the Internet of Things event.

The winning team comprises the following students:

Third-year B.Tech students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering visited ShriSrinivasa Polymers, Bhimavaram, on 24/2/2024 and 26/02/2024. During the visit, students explored how the boilers are functioning and observed the production process of thermocol boxes and sheets. Students gained insights into the manufacturing processes, quality control measures, and safety protocols employed at the facility. Dr. S.V. SaiSudheer and Mr. G. Mahesh, faculty members from the department, provided valuable guidance and explanations to the students throughout the visit. The industrial exposure offered during this trip enhanced the students' understanding of theoretical concepts learned in the classroom and provided a practical perspective on the application of engineering principles in real-world scenarios.

   

Team AMIGOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology participated in the Dr. G. Padmanabham Memorial Electric Two Wheeler Design Competition 2024 organized by SAEINDIA Southern Section, held at Rajalakshmi Engineering College in Chennai from 17-02-2024 to 18-02-2024. In this competition Team AMIGOS secured Third Prize in the Best Innovation Award Category. Congratulations to the Team AMIGOS.

   

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a two-day workshop on Lean Six Sigma from 02/02/2023 to 03/02/2023. The resource person for this program was Prof. Mohammad T. Khasawneh from Binghamton University, New York. This workshop provided participants with a comprehensive and interactive learning experience aimed at mastering the principles and tools of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. The sessions covered a range of topics, including process optimization, waste reduction, variation identification and control, data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement techniques. The workshop was conducted through a blend of classroom instruction and case studies, facilitating a dynamic learning environment for all participants.

   

Team AMIGOS, representing Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, participated in the SIEP E-BIKE CHALLENGE 2024 organized by ISIE INDIA in Bhopal, Madhya Pradeshfrom 24/01/2024 to 28/01/2024.

   

Hydrogen BAJA (hBAJA) 2024 was organized by SAEINDIA from January 9 to January 13, 2024, at Pithampur, Indore. In this championship, Team AMIGOS of Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram emerged as the Overall Runner-Up of the event, winning a cash prize of Rs 35,000. The team also secured victories in other categories, including Best Design (with a cash prize of Rs 15,000), Sales Award (with a cash prize of Rs 15,000), Engine Simulation Award Design (with a cash prize of Rs 15,000), Sustainability Award (with a cash prize of Rs 15,000), and Acceleration Award (with a cash prize of Rs 15,000).

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram has organised an Alumni Talk on 18th November 2023, titled "Core job opportunities for Mechanical Engineering students".

The speaker was Mr. Bendi Anil, Alumnus of 2012-16 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Senior Engineer, Medha Traction Equipment's Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.

Mr. B.Anil , addressed Second year and Final year Mechanical Engineering students and he shared his experiences in industry, explained production and manufacturing of seemed tubes , current opportunities in manufacturing industry and railway equipment manufacturing.

B.Tech second-year (2022-2026 Batch) Mechanical Engineering students went on an industrial visit to Nidadavole, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, on November 11, 2023. During this visit, they explored two industries: Nandina Iron & Steels Limited and Photons Food Processing Engineers Ltd.

Nandina Iron & Steel Limited operates as a foundry specializing in the casting of industrial valves and alloy steel valves, supplying them to Vizag Steel Plant in Visakhapatnam. The students observed various sections, including pattern making, preparing of moulding sand, cope & drag preparation, metal pouring, fettling, and machining for component surface finishing. They were fortunate to witness heavy-duty lathes, planers, and shapers in action.

Additionally, the students visited Photons Food Processing Engineers, a company that designs and manufactures food processing equipment for modern rice mills and fish processing plants. Here, they gained insights into the operations of shearing machines, bending machines, and various welding processes, such as arc welding, plasma welding, metal inert-gas (MIG) welding, and oxy-fuel welding used for joining sheets. A total of 46 students, accompanied by department faculties Dr. N. Naga Krishna and Mr. Ch. Naveen Kumar, participated in these company visits.

   

On 9th November 2023, the SAE Collegiate Club of Vishnu Institute of Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a Guest Lecture titled College-2-Corporate: Orientation for Budding Engineers. The resource person was Mr. AnuragPemmaraju, a Graduate Engineer Trainee at Nexteer Automotive India Pvt Ltd, Chennai. In addition to his role at Nexteer, Mr. Anurag also serves as a Technical Judge for various competitions organized by SAEINDIA Southern Section.

This guest lecture offers an insightful and dynamic session strategically crafted to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world corporate expectations for engineering students. The aim is to provide invaluable guidance, practical tips, and a roadmap for a successful transition from the college environment to the professional corporate world.

   

B.Tech Second Year (2022-26Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit toTanuku, West Godavari (Dist), Andhra Pradesh, on 5th November 2023. The students visited four industries

VIJAYA INDUSTRIES, Peravali, specializes in the production of copper, brass, aluminium, and bronze utensils through various sheet metal operations.

NEW VIJAYA SPRAYERS LTD, Peravali, is known for manufacturing non-ferrous bushes and bearings using casting processes. This visit afforded the students a comprehensive insight into the manufacturing processes covered in the subject “Manufacturing Processes” for the current semester.

BSM FOUNDRIES, Ajjaram, is renowned for crafting bronze bells ranging from 1 kg to 500 kg, along with bronze plates and utensils through casting processes.

RAJESWARI INDUSTRIES, Ajjaram, specializes in the production of bushes, bearing liners, half bearings, and more.

In total, 67 students participated in this enriching experience, accompanied by the esteemed department faculty members, Dr. N. Nagakrishna and Mr. D. Vamsee Krishna.

   

On the 31st of October 2023, the SAE Collegiate Club of Vishnu Institute of Technology, within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, hosted an insightful event. This event took the form of an Expert Talk focused on Digital Twin with SIEMENS Tecnomatix Software. The session aimed to shed light on the practical applications and benefits of utilizing this cutting-edge software in engineering and manufacturing processes.

The distinguished speaker for the occasion was Mr. Rakesh B, a Senior Manager at Marconi Technologies, Hyderabad. With his extensive knowledge and expertise in the field, Mr. Rakesh provided valuable insights and real-world examples of how Digital Twin technology is revolutionizing various industries. The target audience for this session was comprised of 2nd-year and final-year students of Mechanical Engineering, as well as 2nd-year students of Civil Engineering.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram has organised an Alumni Talk on 24th August 2023, titled GROUP 1 preparation strategy.

The speaker was Mr.P. Gogaraju, Alumnus of 2010-14 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Assistant Treasury Officer (ATO) Government of Andhra Pradesh. Mr.P. Gogaraju, addressed Final, Third & Second Year Mechanical Engineering students and provided inputs to the Students regarding APPSC&UPSE Examinations and focused mainly on Group 1 preparation strategy. Students actively interacted with Mr.Gogaraju and asked various questions. He answered very patiently.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology(A), Bhimavaram, on 17th & 18th August 2023, organised a workshop on Python Programming. The resource person was Dr.T.V.Rao, Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering Currently advising Web Synergies(Singapore based IT Services Company).

The target audience of the lecture were III B.Tech Mechanical, Electrical & Civil Engineering students and faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Dr.T.V.Rao interacted with the students and explained to them about the Python basics, Data structures in python, Concepts of palindrome, Fibonacci sequence, Pseudocodes & Recursive equations and algorithms for gcd . The students actively responded to the queries of the resource person.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2021-25 Batch)

Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to casting industries located in Vijayawada on 12th August 2023. The students visited two industries - Kusalava International and United Engine & Machine Co. (UEM) Pistons India Pvt. Ltd. Kusalava International is involved in manufacturing, supplying and exporting of premium quality cylinder liners, aluminium block liners, piston rings, for automotive industries. The cylinder liners are manufactured by centrifugal casting process. UEM Pistons manufactures various types of pistons-icon forged pistons, dualoy pistons, silvolite pistons and KB hypereutectic pistons.

The students also observed various machining operations being done on heavy machineries like lathes, centreless grinding, honing etc. The students were accompanied by department faculties Mr. G. Mahesh and Mr. J.Chandrasekhar. The visit to these companies gave an overview to the students about the casting and machining processes.

B.Tech Second Year (2022-26 Batch)

Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit on 12 th August 2023 to Hitech Print Systems Limited (HPSL), Gannavaram. HPSL is a high security printing press and are equipped to handle confidential printing work catering to various educational institutions, banks & government departments. HPSL is also specialised in printing the requirements of various banks and the corporate sectors.

Through this visit, our students got an overview of the process of high security printing. Sri Manoharan Garu, Vice President, HPSL and Mr. Raju, Manager - Maintenance gave a demonstration of the various mechanical components used in the printing machinery like -gears, bearings, belts, springs etc. The students were accompanied by department faculties Dr. N. Naga Krishna and Mr. Ch. Naveen Kumar. The students express their sincere thanks to the beloved Management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society for giving them such a wonderful opportunity to visit the industry.

   

Team KRONOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology participated in the Dr. G. Padmanabham Memorial Electric Two Wheeler Design Competition 2023 organized by SAEINDIA Southern Section, held at Rajalakshmi Engineering College in Chennai from 22-07-2023 to 23-07-2023. In this competition Team KRONOS Won the best Innovation Award.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering organised an Alumni Talk on 30th June 2023, titled Non-Tech Roles in IT Industry.The speaker was Mr. M. SaiVenkatesh, Alumnus of 2017-21 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Business Analyst in Quantiphi., Bangalore.Mr. Venkatesh, addressed Final Year Mechanical Engineering students and provided inputs to the Students and focused mainly on the skills required for non-technical roles in IT Industry.

Students actively interacted with Mr. Venkatesh and raised various questions that were addressed very patiently by the Speaker.Sincere thanks to Mr. Venkatesh for his wonderful talk and for the great session he had with our Students. This talk was graced by Dr. M. Venu, Professor & HoD, MechEngg.

   

The Researchers Day event organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering was successfully held on 13/05/2023. The event aimed to promote a research culture, foster collaboration, and provide a platform for knowledge exchange and skill development among researchers, faculty, and students.

Presentations and Discussions:

The event featured a series of presentations by researchers, showcasing their innovative findings and research projects in various subfields of mechanical engineering. These presentations were followed by engaging discussions, where attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, seek clarifications, and provide valuable feedback.

Poster Sessions:

A dedicated poster session was organized, allowing researchers to present their work visually and interact with attendees in a more informal setting. The poster sessions proved to be a vibrant platform for networking and idea exchange, stimulating conversations on emerging research trends and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Keynote Speaker:

Renowned expert Prof. Santosh Kumar G. in the field of mechanical engineering delivered an inspiring keynote address. He shared insights into the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in the field, motivating attendees to pursue excellence in their research pursuits.

To enhance the participants skills, the event included workshops on topics such as research methodology, data analysis, and effective scientific writing. These interactive sessions provided valuable guidance and practical tips for conducting high-quality research and communicating research findings effectively.

The event facilitated networking among researchers, faculty, and students from different institutions. Participants seized the opportunity to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. This networking aspect contributed to the creation of a collaborative ecosystem, encouraging future joint research initiatives.

   

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Vishnu Institute of Technology organized FETHON 2K23, a competition held on May 8th and 9th, 2023, specifically targeting Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering students. The primary objective of this event was to cultivate a coding culture, inspire a passion for computer technologies in core engineering fields, and assess the skill set of the participating students.

FETHON 2K23 provided an excellent platform for web designers to demonstrate their creativity and proficiency in utilizing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. A total of 27 teams, comprising three members each, enthusiastically registered for the event. Every team showcased their unique ideas by developing websites that focused on diverse domains, such as environmental preservation, marketing, e-commerce, hospitals, and warehouses, among others. The event was graced by our esteemed Director & Principal, Dr. D. Suryanarayana, as well as the Heads of other departments. The winners of the competition were recognized for their exceptional performance. The first and second prize winners received a cash prize of 5000/- along with additional goodies as a token of appreciation.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram organised an Alumni Talk on 6th May 2023, titled Industry Insights

The speaker was Mr. K. Lakshmi Vara Prasan, Alumnus of 2010-14 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Manager - Business Operations at Tech Mech Global Interface Pvt Ltd., Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Vara Prasan, addressed second & third year Mechanical Engineering students and provided inputs on the industry insights and career after graduation - mainly emphasized on opportunities In Mechanical Engineering, Cement, Steel & Paper making processes, Major equipment in raw material handling, major products in industrial sector.

Students actively interacted with Mr. Vara Prasan and posed various questions that were addressed very patiently by the Speaker.

Alumni Talk on 4th February 2023, titled "Rocket Science". The speaker was Mr.D.Y.S.S.N.V.ManikantaSrikanth, Alumnus of 2014-18 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Team Lead at Skyroot Aerospace Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.

Mr.Srikanth addressed 2nd, 3rd and 4th Year Mechanical Engineering students and emphasized on the core opportunities and the importance of different concepts of Mechanical Engineering in Rocket Science. He explained about the stages of satellite launching and briefed about the stage separation, module recovery and the challenges he faced in career. Students coined various questions and they were addressed by him very patiently, he also stressed students to learn coding and basics of electronics along with their core knowledge. Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavarm organised an Alumni Talk on 30th January 2023, titled "Career Transition from Mechanical Engineer to Machine Learning Engineer". The speaker was Mr. P. Pavan Kumar, Alumnus of 2011-15 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Team Lead at Infosys, Hyderabad.

Mr.Pavan addressed pre-final year Mechanical Engineering students and emphasized on the usage of Python language in various projects. He also suggested students do mini projects related to Machine Learning along with their academics. Students actively interacted with the speaker and clarified their doubts. GO-KART competition titled Go-Karting Championship-2023 was organized by Advanced Go-Kart team at GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam during 23rd to 25th January 2023. Team KRONOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram participated in this competition and were the runners in Traction event.

   

Expert Talk on Automotive Materials and Failure Analysis of Automotive Components Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, on 19th January 2023, organised an expert talk on two topics - "Steels Selection for AutomotiveComponents" and the second topic titled "Failure Analysis of Automotive Components".The resource person was Dr.G. V. Sarath Kumar, Materials Scientist, Advance Engineering Division, Ashok Leyland, Chennai and the participants of the talk were pre-final and final year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. G. V. Sarath Kumar interacted with the students and elaborated them about various types of automotive materials, classification of failures, stages in failure analysis and case-studies related to these topics.The students found the topic to be informative, interesting and actively responded to the queries of the resource person.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, on 6th January 2023, organised a guest lecture and Hands on experience on Lost-FoamCasting (LFC) process. The resource person was Mr.K.Chiranjeevi, Managing Partner of Indian Metal Works, Addanki.The target audience of the guest lecture were second year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. K. Chiranjeevi interacted with the students and explained them about the LFC process, its applications and advantages. He had elaborated the steps involved in this process to the students along withdemonstration in Production Technology lab.

   

Vishnu Institute of Technology Association of Mechanical Engineering (VITAMEN) celebrated Teachers day on 5th September on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan at C Block Seminar hall.

The celebration started with the speech of Ms. V. G. L. S Meghana, Pre-final year Mechanical Engineering student. The students made an audio-visual on faculty to express their gratitude for the immense contribution put forth by their teachers towards their development. HoD, Dr. M Venu addressed the Students, motivated them and advised students to get expertise in core Mechanical Engineering domain and also suggested to get familiarity with programming languages and also stressed on the importance of human values and ethics.

On the occasion of Teachers day, VITAMEN organized quiz activity was conducted to the students using Plickers and prizes were distributed to the winners.

   

VIT - Alumni Tech Talk on "Pursuing Masters and Job Opportunities in Germany" was conducted on 27th August 2022 by Mr.Venkata Satish Raju Mudundi, Alumnus of 2011-15 Batch of Mechanical Engineering and is currently working as Junior Manager - Supply Chain Quality Management at AIRBUS, Germany.

Mr. SatishRaju interacted with the students and elaborated them about the 'prerequisites for Master's programme, Master's Opportunities and Job opportunities in Germany. He suggested to all the students to improve their communication skills and learn the German language in the college while pursuing their graduation. He actively responded to the queries of the students regarding Master's programme and Job opportunities in Germany. Sincere thanks is extended to Mr. Satish Raju for his excellent and informative talk and for the wonderful interaction with pre-final and final year Mechanical Engineering Students.

   

On 30th July 2022, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology in association with VITAMEN (Vishnu Institute of Technology Association of Mechanical Engineering) & SAEINDIA Collegiate Club of Vishnu institute of Technology organized Poster Presentation Competition. The main aim of organizing this event was to sensitize our younger generation engineers able to know the multi-disciplinary domain knowledge and also innovative ideas for the global needs.

Head of the Department, Dr. M. Venu initiated the event. Senior faculty from the college acted as judges and evaluated the Students work. The Students participated in the event with lot of enthusiasm and made the event a grand success. This competition was very much appreciated by our Director & Principal,Dr. D. Suryanarayanaand HODs of other Departmentsand faculty members. At the end of the event, HoDDr. M Venu addressed the students regarding the future scope of Mechanical Engineering merging with other technologies (Data Science, Machine Learning etc.) and their necessity in the industry.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On the last day of their visit (6th June), the students visited BANCO Products India. The technical team has explained, what are the raw materials used in the manufacturing process of automotive radiators and coolant storage tanks.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 5th June 2022 (Sunday), students got an opportunity to visit the statue of Bharat Ratna - Sardar Vallabhai Patel (Statue of Unity).The Statue of Unity is the world's tallest statue, with a height of 182 metres (597 feet).

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 4th June (Afternoon), the students visited Coca-Cola plant at Goblej. They have seen physically how the coca cola products are manufactured and saw what type of technology they are using, what safety measurements they are taking and quality checking of their products.They are using modern conveyer belts, bottle filling machine and liquid storage tanks. Most of the work is automated. They have a wonderful lab for quality checking of the products. If there is any defect in product like over filling or less filling the machine immediately identifies and acts accordingly.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 4th June, the students went to Mafatlal Industries. Mafatlal is maintaining two industries - one is based on new technology and the other one is based on old one. In the old industry, the studentshave seen the manufacturing process of sewing threads from a heap of cotton, how it gets its strength, etc. they have also seen the manufacturing and production of sanitary pads.In the new industry, they have seen the process of making of a plain cloth, printing designs on a cloth, dyeing a cloth and the packing of the materials.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 3rd June (Afternoon), the students visited Anand Milk Union Limited (AMUL) plant at Anand. Apart from a state-of-the-art factory, Amul headquarters in Anand houses a dairy museum and some Amul parlours. Dairy museum is the first stop for visitors where a guide runs you through history of Amul in the backdrop of visually attractive collage walls.The technical team has explained automation of dairy through presentation containing many functional block diagrams and existing computerized controlled machineries. The students visited butter plant, milk powder plant, refrigeration unit and milk processing unit.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 3rdJune (Forenoon), the students visited Morris Garages (MG) Motors India Limited plant at Halol. At first, the studentsentered the stamping area where the sheet metal is shaped into the bonnets, doors etc., with the help of large stamping machines. In this area, most of the work is done by robots (SCARA robots). Later,the students entered the assembly floor where general assembly was going on. A member from the technical team had guided the students throughout the assembly line. Time taken to assemble one car is 4 minutes. In this plant - MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, MG Gloster, MG Astor and MG ZS EV are manufactured and assembled. The uniqueness of these cars is that they are providing all the internet facilities in these cars.

   

B.TechThird Year (2019-23 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, during 02nd - 06th June 2022.

On 2nd June 2022 (Afternoon), the students visited TBEA India Pvt. Ltd.TBEA group has long history of making wires and cables since 60 years and transformers since 73 years.It manufactures and markets electrical components. This Company produces transformers, reactors, mutual inductors and other products. TBEA also produces new energy equipment, new materials and other products.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, on 5thJanuary 2022, organised a guest lecture on “Manufacturing Technology”. The resource person was Mr.K.Chiranjeevi, Managing Partner of Indian Metal Works, Addanki, Prakasam district.
The target audience of the lecture were second year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. K. Chiranjeevi interacted with the students and explained them about the advanced casting techniques like Lost-Foam Casting (LFC). He has elaborated the steps involved in this process to the students with different video presentations. The students actively responded to the queries of the resource person.

   

B.Tech Second Year (2020-24 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit on 7th& 8th January 2022 to Meena Foods Private Limited,kumudavalli, Bhimavaram. The students viewed various sections like Mise en place (scaling), Mixing, Kneading, Bulk ferment (1st rise), Shaping, proofing or proving (2nd rise), Baking, Packingetc. in the preparation of Breads, Buns and Rusks. Students saw the working of various semi-automatic machines and automatic packing machines.

A total of 135 students visited Meena Foods Private Limited, accompanied by Department faculties- Dr. N. Naga Krishna, Dr. K MahendraBabu, Mr. Ch. Naveen Kumar, Mr. B. Bangarraju, Mr. D. Vamsee Krishna Mr. V Ambedkar and Mr.M.Vinod. The students would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society and the Managing Director of the Meena Foods Private Limited for giving them an opportunity to visit this company.

   

MIND SET

On 28th October 2021, SAE INDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB of VISHNU INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY took a major initiative and conducted one-day event titled ‘MINDSET’ to inspire the second year students regarding the happenings of Mechanical Engineering Department. This event created awareness about SAE INDIA and different national level competitions like BAJA, Go-Kart, E-Bike etc. Head of the Department, Dr. M. Venu initiated the event, addressed the students and motivated them. All the Faculty of the Department interacted with the Students.

The Collegiate Club members actively conducted different technical competitions like Kahoot Quiz, Poster Presentation, Logo design etc. for second year students. This event create good environment for second year students to interact with the faculty and the senior students.

SHOUT OUT LOUD

Vishnu Institute of Technology Association of Mechanical Engineering (VITAMEN) organized two-day (29th and 30th October 2021) interaction programme titled ‘SHOUT OUT LOUD’ for second year students. Our Principal, Dr. D. Suryanarayana, addressed the Students, motivated them and advised Students to get expertise in core Mechanical Engineering domain and also suggested to get familiarity with programming languages. Mr. M. Praveen, Dept. Placement Coordinator gave an overview regarding placement achievements to the Students.

Pre-final year Mechanical Engineering students conducted various conceptual and cultural events like Guess the Theme, Dancing, Singing etc. Students actively participated in all the events and won many prizes, certainly it was a wonderful outcome where hidden talents of the Students were found and a good collaboration took place among the students.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized a one-week training program on "AutoCAD" in association with AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) from 12-04-2021 to 17-04-2021. The target audience for the workshop were first year Mechanical Engineering students.The main objective of this workshop is to teach the basic commands and tools necessary for professional 2D drawing, Design and Drafting using AutoCAD.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram received Ford EcoSport Vehicle from Ford Company, Chennai. As a part of Ford's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative named "Taking Education Further", the company donated a new vehicle to the college.

Principal, Dr. D. Suryanarayana said that, VIT Mechanical Engineering students are designing and fabricating various All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and are also excelling in various Go-Karting, SAE-BAJA competitions. This experience enabled our students to get placement opportunities in reputed automotive companies like Hyundai, KIA Motors, John Deere, Renault-Nissan, Isuzu and Royal Enfield. He added that Ford has gifted EcoSport vehicle to our college to further encourage our students and enlighten them with the latest automotive technologies. He also quoted that this is a unique and first of its kind initiative by Ford India and Vishnu Institute of Technology is the first Engineering College in the State of Andhra Pradesh to get benefitted from such initiative.

Head of the Department, Dr M. Venu mentioned that the new vehicle will help the students and will provide a learning opportunity to explore new features in automobile engineering.

The Chairman of Sri Vishnu Group, Sri K.V. Vishnu Raju, Vice-Chairman Sri R. Ravichandran and Principal of VIT Dr. D. Suryanarayana thanked Ford India authorities for their support to the college.

   

Project of the Year-2020 global competition was conducted by Dassault Systemes in association with APSSDC. More than 300 students with 148 project and start up ideas have participated in the competition providing digital mock-up projects across Automotive, Agriculture, Aerospace, Shipbuilding, Civil Construction, and Manufacturing.

In this competition, Mr. G. Vighnesh from Dept. of Mechanical Engineering represented Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, with the title of the project being RED CHILLI SORTING MACHINE. For this competition, the participants were from various parts of the world and we are happy to share that our team stood in 10th position.

   

Hearty Congratulations to Mr. B. Bangarraju, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for receiving Best Teacher Award 2020 by APSSDC and Applied Robot Control (ARC) Team.

Last year ARC Lab was established in our College in association with APSSDC and Indo Euro Synchronisation and hands on training on Robotics was provided to our ME, ECE and EEE Students to cater to the needs of the industry. Also, trained students got placed in automotive companies like KIA Motors, Royal Enfield and Vespa.

Mr.Bangarraju has been given this prestigious award for his eminent work on:
1. German high end technology transfer to Indian Students.
2. Bringing Industry practices to Academia - Execution & Leadership.
3. Implementing Innovative Teaching Practices.

Department of Mechanical Engineering has conducted One-Week Online Faculty Development Programme on "Recent Research Developments in Materials Engineering and Mechanical Design" from 21st to 25th July 2020. Participants from across the country and abroad attended the sessions that include - Research Methodology, Vehicle Dynamics, Rotor Dynamics, 3D Printing and Advanced Structural Composites. The most important part of these sessions was, the participants were amazed, felt happy and found it extremely useful with the contents delivered by the eminent resource persons. Portfolio of the resource persons include diversified knowledge on the current research areas like Design, Modeling and Manufacturing of Composites using Functionally Graded Materials and Additive Manufacturing.

At the outset, the Convener of this FDP, Dr. M. Venu and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology would like to convey their heartfelt thanks to the beloved Management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society (SVES) for providing wonderful support and required facilities to conduct the FDP smoothly and effectively. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Director & Principal of VIT, Dr. D. Suryanarayana, for encouraging and motivating the Faculty to conduct such FDPs.

We received a total of 700+ registrations from various faculty and research scholars across the globe for this FDP and we used Google Meet and YouTube Live Streaming for the participants to have access to the FDP. Department of Mechanical Engineering would like to thank all the resource persons, participants and most importantly the Management of SVES for making this FDP a memorable event and a grand success.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram on 25th May 2020 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, organised a Webinar on "SIGNIFICANCE OF 3D PRINTING IN MANUFACTURING SECTOR". The resource person was Dr.B. VenkataPhanindra and the beneficiaries of the webinar were II, III and IV B.Tech students and Faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr.VenkataPhanindra received his Doctoral Degree from NIT Warangal in 2018 and he has done research in "Customized cranial implants with Additive Manufacturing (AM)" and has published research papers in reputed international and national journals. Currently, he is working as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at VidyaJyothi Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.

The main objective of the Webinar was to impart our Students with the knowledge and applications of 3D printing in various industries. His webinar covered the following topics - Introduction to 3D Printing, Classification of AM Processes and Applications of 3D Printing.

   

All-Terrain Vehicle(ATV) competition titled CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 2.0 - 2020 was organized by APSSDC and Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE) at K L University, Vijayawada during 27th February to 1st March 2020. Team KRONOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram participated in this event and were the winners in ACCELERATION, SUSPENSION, TRACTION, SLEDGE PULL TEST and were overall FIRST RUNNER-UPand won a cash prize of Rs40,000/-. The team also won FUTURE AWARD for the best innovative design of the ATV vehicle.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized a Two Day Workshop on "HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTING OF REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS" in association withNATIONAL ENGINEERING, Vishakhapatnam from 24th& 25th February 2020. The target audience for the workshop were third year Mechanical Engineering students.

The main objective of the workshop is to impart working knowledge in Refrigeration &Air-Conditioning (R&AC) systems and give hands on training on the repair,maintenance, system diagnostics, troubleshooting and fine-tuning to gain maximum efficiencyof Refrigerators and air conditioning equipments.

The workshop was very much helpful to the student participants and also provided hands on experience on R&AC systems. They also have Refrigeration &Air-Conditioning (R&AC) as subject in the current semester.

Asian Electric Bike (E-Bike) Championship 2019 was organized by Aditya Institute of Technology and Management (AITAM), Tekkali, during 01 - 04 March 2019. In this championship, team AMIGOS 2.0 representedVishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram and was the Overall Championof the event and won a cash prize ofRs 60,000/-. It was also the winner in other rounds such as -Endurance (won cash prize of Rs 8,000/-), Autocross (won cash prize of Rs 8,000/-), and runner-up in Terrain event (won cash prize of Rs 5,000/-).

Total of 25 teams from 7 states of our country participated in this event and some of the teams are from prominent colleges like- Manipal University, Lovely Professional University , Centurion University, VEL Tech, Velammal Engineering college, SSN Engineering college, Sai Ram Engineering college, JNTU Hyderabad, KITS Warangal, MVGR college of Engineering and among those participants, Vishnu Institute of Technology emerged as overall champions.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, on 1st March 2019, organised a guest lecture on "3D Printing". The resource person was Dr. R. Bapaiah Choudary, who is currently the Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department and Dean (R&D) in Sasi Institute of Technology & Engineering, Tadepalligudem. Dr. R. B Choudary received his M.Tech from REC- Warangal and Ph.D from Andhra University in the field of Metallurgy and he had 32 years of teaching experience. The target audience of the lecture were second year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. R. B Choudaryinteracted with the students and elaborated them about the fundamentals of 3D Printing.Types of 3D Printing Technologies and Processes like Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP), Material Extrusion, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Powder Bed Fusion and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) were discussed with their applications of 3D printing in practical situations. The students actively responded to the queries of the resource person and showed interest in learning the latest advancements in 3D printing.

   

GO-KART competition titled CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS-2019 was organized by APSSDC and Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE) at KL University, Vijayawada during 22nd to 25th February 2019. Team KRONOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram participated in this event and were the winners in CROSS PAD, ENDURANCE TEST &were overall second runner-up along with a cash prize of Rs 20,000/-.

B.TechSecond Year (2017-21Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on 21stFebruary 2019.

First, the students visited Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), whichis the second largest car manufacturer and the number one car exporter in our country. It currently has nine car models across segments - EON, SANTRO, GRAND i10, ELITE i20, ACTIVE i20, XCENT, VERNA, ELANTRA, CRETA& TUCSON. HMIL's fully integrated manufacturing with advanced production, quality and testing capabilities. Current Production Capacity of HMIL is 7,00,000 cars per year& exports to around 88 countries across the world.

During the visit students viewed various sections in HMIL like- Press Shop: In this a computer controlled line converts the sheet metal to body panels with high dimensional accuracy and consistency.

Body Shop: It is a hi-tech line that builds full body shells from panels. Automated robotic arms are used for intricate welding operations that ensure superior and consistent build quality.

Paint Shop: In this shop, customer's preferred colour is added to the body of the car by using automated robotic arms.

Assembly Shop: In Assembly Shop all the engine and suspension parts, the electrical parts, the under body parts etc are fitted into the car. The cars go through complete testing in the Assembly Shop. The Assembly Shop comprises the Trim Line, the Chassis Line, the Final Line and the OK Line.

Next, students got a chance to visit SCHWING STETTER, a German-based company, which deals with manufacturing concrete pumps, concrete mixers, mobile and solid concrete mixing plants, concrete transport systems and related accessories.

A total of 56 students visited the above companies, accompanied by the department faculties - Mr. M. Raghuraman, Ms. M. GowthamaKranthi and Mr.M.Vinod and our society's Chennai liaison officer Mr.Arokiadoss. The students would like to express their heartfelt thanks and are indebted to the management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society and the Human Resource (HR) managers of the above companies for giving them an opportunity to visit these companies. Special thanks to Mr.Arokiadoss for his continuous follow-up with the HR managers of these companies and for making this visit to happen.

   

B.Tech Second and Third Year Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (Aavin) in Chennai on 09th and 10th January,2019. Aavin is the trademark of Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers' Federation Limited. The commercial activities of the Aavin is milk procurement, chilling, processing, packing and sale of milk to the consumer with the average capacity of 11,50,000 lakh litres per day. Aavin produces 4 varieties of milk such as Toned milk (3% fat), Doubled toned milk (1.5% fat), Standardized Milk (4.5% fat) and Full Cream Milk (6% fat).

During the visit the students observed various processing units such as Homogenization, Pasteurization of milk, Automatic packing section and quality section.

Next the students visited Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Chennai. In this centre students visited around 15 galleries out of which defence research, innovation hub gallery, ocean gallery, nuclear power gallery and transport gallery are the major attraction in this centre, from these galleries students had the broad range of exposure to various innovations and technologies. A total of 55 students visited the above company, accompanied by the Department faculties- Mr. M. Raghuraman ,Mr. K. BhanuTeja and Mr.M.Vinod.

   

B.Tech Second Year (2017-21 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in west Godavari and Krishna Districts, AP.

On 6th December, the students visited Meena FoodsPrivate Limited and viewed the preparation of Breads, Buns and Rusks along with fully automatic packing machines. Next, the students visited Kristna Engineering Works, Prakasa Engineering Works and PrakasaSpectro Cast(P) Ltd. All these companies are involved in manufacturing, supplying and exporting of premium quality sugar mill equipment and spares required for cement, oil refinery, mining and thermal industries. The company also manufactures customized products as per the specification and drawings of the clients.

The students observed various sections such as pattern making section, mould preparation, metal pouring and finally the machining section. The students got an opportunity to have a view and understand the operating principle of Cupola furnaces of various capacities and induction furnace. The students also observed various machining operations being done on heavy machineries like lathes, plano-miller, planer, double-head shaper, vertical turning lathes etc.

On 8th December, the students also visited the following companies in the morning session-

  • BSM FOUDRIES- they manufacture bronze bells weighing from 1 kg to 500 kg, bronze plates and utensils by casting process.
  • VIJAYA INDUSTRIES- they manufactures copper, brass, aluminium and bronze utensils by using various sheet metal operations.
  • NEW VIJAYA SPRAYERS LTD- which manufacture non-ferrous bushes and bearings by casting process. The visit provided the students an overview of the various manufacturing process, which the students learn in the subject "Production Technology" in the current semester.
  • A total of 69 students visited the above companies, accompanied by the Department faculties-Dr. N.Naga Krishna, Mr.K. BhanuTeja, Mr. G, Mahesh, Mr. Nasiruddin Usmaniya & Mr.M.Vinod. The students would like to express their heartfelt thanks and are indebted to the management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society and the Human Resource managers of the above companies for giving them an opportunity to visit these companies.

   

E-Bike
Asian Electric Bike Challenge (AEBC) Championship 2k18 was organized by B.V Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur during 13-16 March 2018. In this championship, team AMIGOS represented from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram. The team AMIGOS was the Overall Championship Winners of the event and won a cash prize of Rs 60,000/-. It was also the winner in other rounds such as - Endurance (won cash prize of Rs 8,000/-), Autocross (won cash prize of Rs 8,000/-), Skid Pad (won cash prize of Rs 8,000/-) and runner-up in Acceleration and Braking round. The management, faculty and students of Department of Mechanical Engineering, VIT heartily congratulate the team for their splendid efforts and for their achievement.

Go-Kart
B.V Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur also organized an Indian Pro-Kart Endurance Championship (IPEC) 2k18 during 13-16 March 2018. Team KRONOS from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram participated in this Championship and were the winners in Skid Pad round and Selfie Contest event.

   

A one-week (18th to 23rd Dec 2017) workshop on "NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING METHODS AND THEIR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS" was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, in association with VIDAL NDT, Vijayawada. The target audience for the workshop were final year Mechanical Engineering students. This workshop gave an opportunity to enlighten the students on Non Destructive Testing techniques by providing an overview of the techniques and hands on experience on the equipment. Students also learnt about the basic principles of various NDT methods. And importance of them in Industrial applications.

   

A one-week (11th to 16th Dec 2017) training program on "CATIA DESIGNER" was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, in association with Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC). II & III B.Tech Mechanical Engineering students participated in this training program that gave them an outline of "CATIA V5" software. During the workshop, hands on training were given to the students about how to design machine components. Students also got an opportunity to understand and utilize the tool in an efficient manner and learned some of the workbenches of CATIA V5 - Part Modelling, Assembly, and Drafting.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organised a Guest Lecture on "Fundamental Concepts of Thermodynamics". The resource person was Dr. T. Anup Kumar and the beneficiaries of the lecture were final year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Anup received his M.Tech from JNTU College of Engineering- Hyderabad and Ph.D from Andhra University in the field of Thermal Engineering, and he had 18 years teaching experience.

Dr. Anup interacted with the students and elaborated them about the fundamental concepts of Thermodynamics and their practical applications and also stressed on the laws of thermodynamics in an elaborated manner. The inputs shared by the resource person not only motivated the students but will also help them in making their career in the field of Thermal Engineering.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2015-19 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for a one day educational tour to Renault-Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd (RNAIPL). The company is a collaboration between Renault India Private Limited and Nissan Motor India Private Limited and their manufacturing plant is located in Oragadam, Chennai. The plant has an annual capacity of 4 lakhs vehicles, shared equally between them. RNAIPL adopts Japanese manufacturing policy of GENBA KANRI.

During the visit, the students got an opportunity to go through stamping, assembling of stamped parts, paint shop and assembling sections of some of the models like Renault Kwid, Duster and Datsun Redi Go.

A total of 25 students visited the company accompanied by department faculty Mr. Raghuraman and our society's Chennai liaison officer Mr. Arokiadoss. The students would like to express their sincere thanks to the management of SVES and Mr. Santosh, HR Manager, RNAIPL for giving them an opportunity to visit the plant.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized a one-week (24th to 29th July 2017) workshop on "CATIA Training" in association with Ramtech Engineering Services, Hyderabad. In this workshop an outline of "CATIA" software was presented to the students. During the workshop, hands on training were given to the students about how to design machine components. Students also got an opportunity to understand and utilize the tool in an efficient manner and learned some of the workbenches of CATIA v5 - Part Modelling, Assembly, Drafting, Wireframe & Surface Design.

The participants and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering express their sincere thanks to the management for the kind support extended in organizing this event.

   

B.Tech Final Year (2014-18 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to industries located in Visakhapatnam during 08-10 July 2017. The students visited three industries - Synergies Castings Limited, TATA Beverages Limited and Nandan Cleantec Industries Limited.

On 8th July 2017, the students visited Synergies Castings Limited, which is the pioneer and leader in the manufacturing of Aluminium alloy wheels. The students went through the various sections involved in the manufacturing of alloy wheels - alloy ingot, sophisticated melting furnaces, state-of-the-art precisely controlled low-pressure die casting (LPDC) technology, heat treatment, CNC machining, testing & inspection and electroplating system. Currently, Synergies Castings Limited supplies alloy wheels to several automobile majors.

The students, on 10th July 2017, visited a beverage industry that prepares the various flavours of TATA GLUCO+ energy drink. It was a completely automated industry and hygiene was given utmost importance. On the same day, students also visited Nandan Cleantec Industries Ltd., which synthesises bio-diesel and refined glycerine.

The visit was a wonderful platform for the students that related academics with the latest and innovative practices followed by these industries. A total of 42 students visited the above companies and were accompanied by department faculties - Mr. B. Bangarraju and Mr. K. Bhanu Teja. The students would like to express their sincere thanks to the Management and to the Human Resource Managers of the above companies for giving them an opportunity to visit these companies. Special mention about Mr. N. Kali Prasad Varma (2015 passed out student of Mech. Engg., VIT, BVRM), who is currently working as Graduate-Engineer Trainee at Synergies Castings Limited, for his support during the visit.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, on 11th March 2017, organised a guest lecture on "Applications of Fluid Dynamics". The resource person was Dr. K. Maruthi Prasad, who is currently the Professor and HOD, Department of Mathematics at GITAM School of Technology, Hyderabad. The target audience of the lecture were second year B.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr.Maruthi Prasad's area of research expertise is "Bio-Fluid Dynamics". His lecture emphasized on the applications of Mathematics in Engineering. Various concepts such as - Differentiation, Matrices, Lagrangian and Euler phenomenon were discussed with their applications in practical situations. The students actively responded to the queries of the resource person and it was an interactive session. Dr.Maruthi Prasad also motivated the students and suggested them about goal settingand being self-disciplined.

   

As a part of VALIANT-2k17, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, organised Vishnu Nitro Championship-2k17 (VNC-2k17), that attracted participants from different parts of our country. Radio controlled cars or R/C cars, as they are commonly known, are powered by small internal combustion engines fueled by a special mixture of nitro-methane, methanol and oil. VNC-2k17 provided the students a learning experience and gave them a chance to understand about chassis design, steering and suspension mechanisms. The event was also a platform for the students to interact with each other, enabled them to share and exchange their ideas.

The first day of the event started with technical inspection, followed by performance test, wheelie and donut. On the second day, endurance test was conducted.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organised a Guest Lecture on "Computational Fluid Dynamics". The resource person was Dr. B.V.N. Rama Kumar, who is currently working as staff Engineer in CFD division of Rolls-Royce India Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. The beneficiaries of the lecture were B.Tech students of all years and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Rama Kumar gave an introductory presentation on CFD and emphasized the significance of fluid mechanics and mathematics to understand the fundamental concepts of CFD. Case studies were also discussed in the presentation to understand the applications of CFD in aerospace, automotive and power sector industries. Apart from sharing technical content, the resource person also motivated the students and enlightened them about the job opportunities in core companies.

   

B.Tech Second Year (2015-19 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to casting industries located in Vijayawada on 2nd December 2016. The students visited three industries - Kristna Engineering Works, Prakasa Engineering Works and Lakshmi Chaitanya Alloys. All these companies are involved in manufacturing, supplying and exporting of premium quality equipment and spares required for sugar, cement, mining and thermal industries. The companies manufacture various grades of cast iron and cast steel castings.

The students observed various sections such as pattern making section, mould preparation, metal pouring and finally the machining section. The students got an opportunity to have a view and understand the operating principle of Cupola furnaces of various capacities and induction furnace. The students also observed various machining operations being done on heavy machineries like lathes, plano-miller, planer, double-head shaper, vertical turning lathes etc. The students were accompanied by department faculties Dr. N. Naga Krishna and Mr. K. V. G. Rama Seshu. The visit to these companies gave an overview to the students about the casting and fabrication processes.

The students sincerely thank Sri T. Raghava Prasad Garu, Managing Director of Kristna Engineering Works and Sri D. Nagarjuna Garu, Managing Director of Lakshmi Chaitanya Alloys for kindly according permission to visit the industry, for personally accompanying the students during the visit and for sharing their valuable knowledge, experience and for enlightening the students about the manufacturing processes.

   

B. Tech Third year (2014-18 Batch) students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to Vijjeswaram Gas Turbo Power Station (VGTPS), Vijjeswaram. VGTPS is the first gas based power plant to be set up in Andhra Pradesh and in South India. The plant has a total installed capacity of 272 MW (Unit-I: 100 MW and Unit-II: 172 MW). The students visited various sections of Unit-I namely Compressor, Combustion system and the Turbine. The visit was very much beneficial to the students as it correlates with some of the contents of the subject "Thermal Engineering-II", which they study in the current semester.

The students sincerely thank Sri P. Srinivas (Control Engineer), Sri Suryanarayana (Asst. Engineer) and Sri Prashanth (Jr. Engineer) for accompanying them during the visit and for sharing their valuable knowledge, experience and for enlightening the students about the operation of the power plant. Department faculty members Dr. N. Naga Krishna, Sri Ch. Bhanu Prakash, Sri K.V.G Rama Seshu and Sri. M. Rahguraman accompanied the students.

   

E-Moto championship 2016 was organized by Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Bhimavaram from 23rd to 26th September 2016. In this championship, three teams represented from Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram. The Teams were - ROAD RASCALS, TEAM INVINCIBLES and TEAM HYDRA. The team Road Rascals was overall championship runner-up and won a cash prize of Rs 40,000/-. It was also the winner in Acceleration and Brake test category (won cash prize of Rs 10,000/-). Another Team-Team Invincibles was winner in BEST INNOVATION category (received cash prize of Rs 8,000/-).

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized the following workshops during July-September 2016

- One day workshop on "AutoCAD Fusion 360" was organized on 08th July 2016, in association with Design Labs, Hyderabad. The target audience for the workshop were Second year Mechanical Engineering students. The workshop gave an overview of the software and students were made familiar with various commands of the software. The workshop also provided an opportunity to the students to understand the advanced features of AutoCAD Fusion 360 software over AutoCAD software.

- One week (03rd to 09th August 2016) workshop on "C A T I A" training in association with Ramtech Engineering Services, Hyderabad. In this workshop an outline of "CATIA" software was presented to the students. During the workshop, hands on training was given tothe students about how to design machine components. Students also got an opportunity to understand and utilize the tool in an efficient manner and learned some of the workbenches of CATIA V5 - Part Modelling, Assembly, Drafting, Wireframe& Surface Design.

- A Six day workshop on "A N S Y S" in association with Ramtech Engineering Services, Hyderabad from 08 to 13 September 2016. In this workshop an outline of "ANSYS" software was presented to the students. The workshop provided an ideal platform for Mechanical Engineering students and hands on training was given to the students about how to perform analysis on machine components. Students also got an opportunity to learn techniques in Thermal, Stress and Frequency analysis on different components.

The faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering would like to express their sincere thanks to the management for the kind support and continuous encouragement extended in organizing this event.

   

To upgrade the technical knowledge and provide industrial exposure to the students, an industrial visit was arranged on 24th March 2016, to Dr. Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Formerly Vijayawada Thermal Power Station), Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada. B.Tech Second Year (2014-18 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering visited Unit-IV of the thermal power station, which has an installed capacity of 500 MW.

The students observed coal dump yard, coal pulverization process, water tube boilers, steam turbines, cooling towers and control unit of the plant. Sri G. Satyanarayana Garu, Asst. Divisional Engineer and Sri R.D.V. Prasad Garu, Asst. Engineer, were kind enough to co-ordinate the students during the visit and have cleared all the queries of the students. The visit enabled the students to get an overall idea about the power generation process. Department faculty members - Sri K.V.G.Rama Seshu and Sri M.Vinod accompanied the students during the visit.

The students were also emphasized on metallurgical aspects like the significance of chemical elemental analysis done by spectroscopy. The students were accompanied by the department faculties - Dr. N. Naga Krishna, Mr. K. V. G. Rama Seshu and Mr. M. Vinod. The visit to these companies gave an overview to the students about the casting and fabrication processes. The students sincerely thank Sri T. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, in association with Prigma Edutech Services, Pune, organized a Three-Day Workshop on "Vehicle Overhauling" from 4th-6th February 2016 for the benefit of the student community.

Mr. Yashpal, Technical Chief of Prigma Edutech Services, gave hands-on training to the students about the different parts of the engine and transmission by dismantling them. It was a learning experience for the students about the various components such as - intake/exhaust manifold, ignition system, cooling system, lubrication system, clutch, transmission and power drive. Students were also given inputs about the suspension, braking system, vehicle alignment and some of the latest advancements in automotive industry.

The workshop received an overwhelming response from internal students as well as from students of other colleges viz. A.U. College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam, B.V.C. Engineering College, Odalarevu, Ramachandra College of Engineering, Eluru and A.K.R.G. College of Engineering & Technology, Nallajerla.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized a guest lecture on 12th December 2015 on the topic - "Future Challenges for Mechanical Engineers". The resource person was Dr. K. Kiran Kumar, who is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Warangal, Telangana. Pre-final, final year B.Tech and M.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering attended the lecture.

Dr. Kiran enlightened the students regarding the future challenges in the fields of thermal engineering, design engineering, micro & nano-manufacturing and advanced materials. The resource person emphasized the need for efficient engines, improved component design, application of nanotechnology and additive manufacturing to cater to the needs of related industries.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organized a National Conference on "Advances in Mechanical and Materials Science" (AMMS - 2015) on 28th November 2015. The conference provided an ideal platform for interaction among scholars and academicians.

The conference initiated with a key-note address by the session chair, Dr. P. Eshwaraiah, on the topic "Additive Manufacturing", followed by oral presentations of the participants. Good number of manuscripts was received and after peer reviewing by the technical committee, few manuscripts were considered for presentation. The delegates for the conference were from reputed institutes of various states.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, as part of industry - academia interaction, organized a Guest Lecture on 6th October 2015 on the topic - "Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Techniques for Engineers". The resource person was Sri B. Srinivas, Operations Manager at Kalva Engineers Private Limited, Hyderabad. Kalva Engineers Pvt. Ltd. caters nationally and internationally through various divisions like NDT training, NDT inspection services and railways NDT division. Pre-final, final year B.Tech, first year students of M.Tech Advanced Manufacturing Systems and faculty of Mechanical Engineering attended the lecture.

Sri B. Srinivas gave an overview of the various NDT techniques and their applications in the field of automotive, aerospace, oil & gas sector and thermal power plants. He also emphasized the role of Mechanical Engineers in these sectors. Also, he enlightened the students of the job opportunities in the field of NDT after graduation.

   

The inaugural of the fresh batch of M.Tech courses with specializations Electrical and Power Engineering (EEE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Digital Electronics and Communication Systems (ECE) and Advanced Manufacturing Systems (Mechanical Engg.) at Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram was held on September 23rd, 2015.

Dr D.Suryanarayana, Principal & Director was the Chief Guest. Prof. K. Srinivas,Vice-Principal & HOD-ECE, Dr. M Venu HOD-Mechanical Engineering, Dr. R Rama Rao HOD-EEE, Mr.R Srinivasa Raju Incharge HOD CSE gave their welcome speech to the freshers.

Director Dr D.Suryanarayana in his address stated the importance of Knowledge upgradation and its impact to survive in this competetive world. Faculty from various departments participated in the program. The inauguration session came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Prof. K Srinivas.

   

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vishnu Institute of Technology, Bhimavaram, organised a Guest Lecture on "Feasibility of Thermal Imaging Techniques for Detection & Differentiation of Skin Cancer". The resource person was Dr. R. Ramjee, who is currently working as Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical, Materials and Energy Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, Punjab. The beneficiaries of the lecture were pre-final, final year B.Tech and M.Tech students and faculty of Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Ramjee gave an overview of various thermal imaging techniques and their applications to the field of medicine. He also emphasized on how the concepts of heat transfer can be applied to the detection of skin cancer at its early stage. Apart from imparting technical knowledge, Dr. Ramjee also motivated the students by stressing the importance of being self-disciplined, library usage and goal setting.

   

B.Tech Third Year (2012-16 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an educational tour to visit various industries in and around Chennai, Tamil Nadu, during 3rd - 7th February 2015. On 3rd February, the students visited Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) and viewed the body shop, assembly lines and robots. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to visit HMIL, which is the 2nd largest automobile manufacturer and leading exporter in our country. The same day, in the afternoon, students got a chance to visit SCHWING Stetter, a German-based company, who deals with manufacturing concrete pumps, transit mixers and related accessories.

On 4th February, the students visited Ashok Leyland, Ennore, Chennai, which is part of Hinduja group. The Ennore plant is the mother plant for Ashok Leyland and accounts for 40% of their production and manufactures vehicles and important aggregates like engines, gearboxes and axles. Heavy CNC machines were being used for the manufacture of crank and camshafts. The students were able to learn the practical applications of various machines and processes which were related to their curriculum.

Next, the students visited Brakes India Ltd., which is part of TVS group, located at Melmaruvathur. The students were fortunate enough to have detailed observation and to have minute details of various types of brakes. Brakes India Ltd., is the leading supplier of brakes and clutches to all four-wheeler manufacturers. The last day, students visited Neyveli Lignite Corporation, a "Navaratna" Government of India Enterprise. NLC operates three open cast lignite mines and uses them for their thermal power stations which have a total installed capacity of 2490 MW. The power generated from these thermal power stations, after meeting the internal requirements, is shared by the southern states viz., Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry.

A total of 30 students visited the above companies, accompanied by the department faculty - Mr. M. Praveen and Mr. K.V.G. Rama Seshu and our society Chennai liaison officer Mr. Arokiadoss. The students would like to express their heartfelt thanks and are indebted to the management of Sri Vishnu Educational Society and the Human Resource managers of the above companies for giving them an opportunity to visit these companies.

   

B.Tech Second Year (2013-17 Batch) Students of Mechanical Engineering went for an industrial visit to Nidadavole, West Godavari (Dist), Andhra Pradesh, during 13-14 February 2015. The students visited two industries - Nandina Iron & Steels Limited and Photons Food Processing Engineers.
Nandina Iron & Steel Limited is a foundry and deals with casting of industrial valves, alloy steel valves and supplies them to Vizag Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam. The students observed various sections such as pattern making section, preparing of moulding sand, cope & drag preparation, metal pouring, fettling section and finally the machining section where required surface finish for the components is obtained. The students were fortunate to have a view at machines such as heavy-duty lathes, planer and shaper.
On 14th February, the students visited Photons Food Processing Engineers, which designs and manufactures various food processing equipments used in modern rice mills and fish processing plants. The students got an opportunity to understand the working of a shearing machine, bending machine and various welding processes. Fabrication of equipments is done with Mild Steel and Stainless Steel sheets of varying thicknesses. Welding techniques such as arc welding, plasma welding, metal inert-gas (MIG) welding and oxy-fuel welding are used for joining these sheets.A total of 70 students visited the above companies accompanied by the department faculties Dr.N.Naga Krishna, Mr.P.Srinivas, Mr.M.Vinod and Mr.K. Srinivasa Raju. The visit to these companies gave an overview to the students about the casting and welding processes, which they study in their current semester. The students sincerely thank Sri N. Rama Krishna, Managing Director of Nandina Iron & Steels Limited, for according permission to visit the industry. Special mention to Sri S.M.Ravindran, Managing Partner of Photons Food Processing Engineers for sharing his valuable knowledge, experience and for enlightening the students about the fabrication processes.

   

M.Tech first year students of Department of Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Advanced Manufacturing Systems went for an industrial visit to Vennar Ceramics Ltd., at Perikigudem village of Mandavalli mandal in Krishna district on 15th February 2015. The students visited body preparation department in which raw material is ball-milled and the powder is then consolidated in a press. The green tiles are then dried and fired, after which the tiles are decorated (glazed). Then the tiles are again fired, squared, sorted and then packed. The visit was very much informative and gave an overview to the students about the processing of ceramics which is a part of their curriculum. Mr. Sudhakar, Production Manager guided the students during the visit. Mr. A. Devarajulu, Works Manager and Mr. M. Murali Krishnam Raju were also involved in amplification of student's outlook.

   

A two day workshop on "Finite Element Methods and its applications" was organized by mechanical engineering department in Vishnu Institute of Technology on 2nd&3rd January 2015. Faculties from various engineering colleges have attended the program. The resource person was Dr. N.V.SWAMI NAIDU from GITAM UNIVERSITY. He delivered the basic concepts on FEM. He has covered one and two dimensional problems and conducted practical sessions. He explained the need of simulation packages and special emphasis was given on the different modeling techniques. The workshop gave a comprehensive idea about the overall concepts of FEM.

   

Final year students of Mechanical Engineering Department went for an industrial visit to Chennai on 10th June 2014, the students visited American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) India Limited. AAM India Limited is a leading, global Tier-One automotive supplier of driveline and drive train systems and related components for light trucks, SUVs, passenger cars, crossover vehicles and commercial vehicles. Sri N. Raj Kumar, Head - Operations, AAM India Limited, gave a PowerPoint presentation about the global activities of AAM and also its activities in India. Later a visit to the shop floor was arranged. In the afternoon, the students visited Voltech Manufacturing Company, which deals with manufacturing and assembling of transformers. The visit to these companies was very informative and the students gained practical exposure to the various types of axles and regarding the fabrication of transformers.

On 11th June 2014, the students visited the 2nd largest automobile manufacturer of India - Hyundai Motors India Limited. They visited the body shop and viewed the assembly lines and robots. The visit was a dream come true to many of the students and the accompanying faculties.

A total of 36 students visited the above companies, accompanied by the department faculties - Dr. N. Naga Krishna, Mr. R. Mohan Rao, Mr. K. Siva Ram and Mr. K. Srinivasa Raju and our society's Chennai liaison officer Sri Arokiadoss.
